A contemporary masterpiece of eco-therapy. Nine youths perform a ten-day initiation ceremony, at the heart of which is a three day and night solo fast in the high desert of the Inyo Mountains in eastern California. On their return the initiates are greeted by teachers and family who listen as they attempt to come to terms with death, torn families, the deep frustration of adolescence, and with powerful resolve to make the transition to adulthood. Probes at the heart of the modern adolescent dilemma with gentle, lyrical, heart-wrenching strokes, even as it reveals a new yet very old way for youth and their parents to celebrate their coming of age.

“The incredibly beautiful documentary shows us adolescents discovering and facing their darkest fears, their stark loneliness, pain at the loss of a loved one, and their doubts about the future. The transformation that occurs in their self esteem, their authenticity and capacity to love after having been on a Vision Quest is profound material which will inspire heartfelt discussions at high school assemblies, PTA groups, teen clubs and scout troops.”

Eric Utne, founder of Utne Reader
“This video is a very powerful educational tool that should be widely available to young people and to the adults who care for them. I’ve never shown a video that people responded to so strongly.”
